I just LOVE Georgian architecture so was absolutely thrilled to come accross this blog on Desire To Inspire, (one of my favourite current reads and one you should definitely try) of this fabulous house in Spitalfields. The Huguenot Physician’s House, as it is called, has been refurbished quite spectacularily by Chris Dyson Architects To read more about it check out their website, full of varied and interesting projects, but it is all too clear they also, like me, love Georgian.
I must at this point add that my idea of Georgian is deep shades of murky reds, smokey greys and sultry greens, as seen in Dyson’s Weavers House so I was pretty stunned to realise it is possible to keep all that beauty and lift it into our modern day just by painting a soft white backdrop and dropping in authentic pieces and period detailing. I rather love the quirky little “library” stashed away in the cupboard above the fireplace and the stern portrait looking down at the goings on in the bed – perhaps the only thing I don’t like is the tailor’s dummy, the antique ones and the upholstered ones have done the rounds, a little bit passe now but do it for me more than this brand new one. But thank you so much @desiretoinspire for bringing this lovely house to notice via your blog! There are more pics on that blog and also on the Dyson website, so this is just a taster for you.
